3D / CAD Conversion Index & Categories
This page lists high‑demand conversion paths and groups them by intent. Click any entry for benefits, tips and inline tools. A unified index helps search engines discover all capabilities faster with shallower crawl depth.
Quick navigation
Engineering CAD → Web Visualization
Turn precise geometry into lightweight, interactive web formats for reviews/sharing/embedding.
STEP → GLB conversion
STEP (ISO 10303) is a widely used neutral CAD/PLM exchange standard for accurate transfer of product structures and precise geometry across different CAD systems.

CATIA → GLB conversionNative import
CATIA is Dassault Systèmes’ high‑end CAD/PLM platform used in aerospace and automotive. Native formats are CATPart/CATProduct, excellent for complex surfaces and large assemblies.

SolidWorks → GLB conversionNative import
SolidWorks is a mainstream mechanical CAD with native SLDPRT/SLDASM files, covering part modeling, assemblies, and drawings with a broad ecosystem.

IGES → GLB conversion
IGES is an older CAD surface/geometry exchange format, good for surface transfer but weaker than STEP for assemblies and parametric retention.

DCC / Animation Assets → Web Delivery
Standardize production assets for showcasing, interaction and lightweight distribution.
OBJ → GLB conversion
OBJ is a simple static mesh format (triangles/polygons), readable and ubiquitous, often used as a geometry interchange in DCC/render pipelines.

FBX → GLB conversion
FBX (by Autodesk) supports meshes, hierarchy, rigs, animation and materials; widely used in DCC and game production.

Manufacturing / 3D Printing Output
Convert engineering/animation assets into meshes for slicing/printing or downstream machining.
IGES → STL conversion
IGES is an older CAD surface/geometry exchange format, good for surface transfer but weaker than STEP for assemblies and parametric retention.

PLY → STL conversion
PLY is used for 3D scanning and point cloud/mesh exchange; may include vertex colors for reconstruction and visualization.

GLB → STL conversion
GLB is the binary form of glTF, ideal for web/mobile real‑time delivery with small size, fast loading, and mature tooling.

Why a unified index?
Listing all pairs reduces crawl depth and speeds up long‑tail discovery. For users, it acts as a capability checklist. Adding more formats (IFC, Revit, 3MF, USDZ, etc.) is as simple as updating configuration.
Planned extensions
- Add more formats like IFC, Revit, 3MF, USDZ
- Group by intent: Engineering→Visualization, DCC→Web Delivery, Printing/Manufacturing
- Provide batch API and public docs
FAQ
Are conversions real‑time?
Uploaded files go through a backend queue; once done you can preview online. For very large CAD assemblies, combine tiling and compression to reduce initial load.
What are the benefits of GLB?
GLB fits modern web pipelines with PBR, binary packaging and streaming. Combine with Draco/meshopt for smaller sizes.
Batch or API support?
Planned: batch uploads and REST APIs to integrate with automation/CI. Share your priorities on the homepage.
How to set tolerance for STEP → STL?
Choose a reasonable tessellation tolerance: too small explodes face count; too large distorts surfaces. Start medium and adjust if needed.
